Mrs. Connie Gilliam

Lower School Teacher: Mrs. Connie Gilliam

Teaches: 3rd Grade

Mrs. Gilliam has been teaching at BL for 6 years. She has been married to David for 23 years and they have four children - Abby (11th grade), Wesley (9th grade), Joshua (7th grade), and Noah (kindergarten).

In Mrs. Gilliam's free time she likes to spend time with her family, scrapbook, read, and attend her kids' sporting events.

What is something most people don’t know about you? I am a preacher's kid, but did not grow up going to Christian school. I wish that I had gone to Christian school so that I would've had the foundation that my own children have from the teachers at Ben Lippen. My children are equipped with biblical knowledge and a biblical worldview that I didn't have growing up.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about making learning fun so that children are excited about school and what they are learning. I want them to love school, even though it is hard work sometimes. I also want them to see Jesus in me so that their own relationship with Him becomes deeper and stronger.

What has been your most memorable moment at BL so far? My most memorable moment is when Noah, our son adopted from China, started BL in pre-K. I saw him learn about Jesus, learn Bible verses, and learn how to thrive in a school environment with nurturing teachers.

What do students get at BL that they won’t get somewhere else? Sometimes people think that Ben Lippen students are in a "Christian bubble" and can't relate to people of other beliefs. I love that BL students learn about all different religions and why the Bible is Truth. They can defend their faith and understand why they believe what they do.

What do you love most about teaching third grade? I love 3rd graders because they are excited about learning and can read chapter books so they develop a love for reading!
