Four Ben Lippen Students are National Merit Semifinalists

The Ben Lippen semifinalists are: Emma Kate Banks, Lindsay Fadel, Dexter Reasons and Sarah Stevens. Together they represent the largest number of semifinalists among independent or Christian schools in the Columbia area.

The Ben Lippen students achieved high scores on the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) taken by approximately 1.6 million 11th grade students in the United States.

Finalists will be determined by a competition that includes academic success, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership, employment, and honors and awards received. In addition, a semifinalist must be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test. Students will be notified in February 2018 if they have advanced to finalist standing. Finalists will compete for three types of National Merit Scholarships offered in the spring of 2018.

Ben Lippen School Headmaster Tony Fajardo says the school is “thankful that the Lord has blessed Ben Lippen with such talented and gifted young ladies.”

"Ben Lippen continues to impact the hearts and minds of young people through a renewed focus on faith and excellence,” Fajardo said. “This honor reflects four very gifted young ladies, who are not only great leaders in the classroom but also in our halls. They represent their families, teachers, and the mission of Ben Lippen extremely well.”

Ben Lippen School is a Christian, college preparatory school of over 700 students in grades Pre-K through 12, and is a ministry of Columbia International University.
