Mr. Bill Currier

Ben Lippen is proud to have Coach Bill Currier as our athletic director. Bill grew up outside of Baltimore, Maryland. He came to South Carolina to play football for the University of South Carolina in 1973. He was a defensive starter for three years at Safety. His senior year, Bill won the Guerard Award for the highest GPA on the football team.

Bill won the Wadiak MVP award and the Rex Enright Captain's Cup. He is the only player to win all three of these awards in the same season. While at USC, Bill was introduced to Christ by five USC football players. Bill has been involved with Ben Lippen ministry since retiring from pro football in 1986.

Bill's on field accomplishments:

  • Played in 2 AFC Championship games
  • Played in the Blue-Gray All-Star game
  • Drafted in the 9th round by the Houston Oilers
  • Won the New York City Touchdown Club "Unsung Hero" award
  • Made the NFL All-Rookie Team
  • Defensive Captain of the New York Giants
  • Bill spent three years with the Houston Oilers, one year with the New England Patriots and five years with the New York Giants
  • Only five players in USC football history have had longer NFL careers
  • Will be inducted into the state of South Carolina's Athletic Hall of Fame with the 2010 class
