Alumni Spotlight: Amy Hunter Reeves '93

Amy Hunter Reeves, a 1993 alumna, has always been driven by a heart to serve others, a passion she cultivated during her time at Ben Lippen and continues to nurture in her current role as the Executive Director of Mission Lexington.

After graduating from Ben Lippen, Amy went on to pursue a degree in Psychology and Theology at Columbia International University (CIU). She initially planned to return to graduate school for a Master’s in Counseling, but life had other plans. A friend introduced her to the world of real estate, where Amy found a natural fit. Over the next 24 years, she excelled in commercial real estate, serving on several nonprofit boards and stepping into leadership roles. In 2015, Amy joined the board of Mission Lexington, a nonprofit that has played a pivotal role in her life and work.

In May 2023, God opened the door for Amy to take on the role of Director of Community Outreach, and by 2024, she was appointed Executive Director. She now leads Mission Lexington with a diverse team of passionate individuals, working together to serve the community and glorify God.

Amy’s time at Ben Lippen was foundational in shaping her worldview and approach to leadership. While at Ben Lippen, she was active in sports, playing volleyball and softball, singing in the choir, and participating in Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Student Mission Fellowship (SMF). Her volleyball coach, Phil Jackson, and coach Carrie Freeguard left a lasting impact on her. Coach Freeguard’s motto, “PFJ—Play for Jesus,” was a game-changer for Amy, helping her shift her focus from personal achievement to glorifying God in all areas of her life.

Amy also fondly remembers Mr. Les Lehman, Ben Lippen’s principal at the time, who was both a mentor and a strong leader. Known for his approachability and unwavering commitment to his students, Mr. Lehman actively supported them at games, walked the halls greeting everyone by name, and always made time to engage with students. Amy reflects that his leadership was defined by his relatability and genuine care for the entire school community.

These experiences at Ben Lippen helped shape Amy’s perspective on leadership, respect for people from different backgrounds, and the importance of living a life of service. These principles are at the core of her work at Mission Lexington, where the team provides holistic services to the community—addressing needs of the mind, body, and spirit. They offer services such as food, clothing, hurricane relief, rent assistance, and school supplies, along with operating a food bank, a thrift store, and various social services. Mission Lexington partners with local churches and businesses, making a powerful collective impact. In 2024 alone, they served 40,000 individuals in need.

Amy is deeply passionate about the work Mission Lexington is doing. “It feels like a big warm hug,” she says, describing the spirit of the organization. They aim to help the community thrive and serve with Christ’s hands, feeding around 2,000 people each month. Looking ahead, Mission Lexington is praying for a new space to accommodate its growing ministry, and it remains hopeful for continued growth and increased impact.

As Amy reflects on her journey, she shares that prayer is one of the best ways to support Mission Lexington. She asks for prayers for the staff as they minister to people facing difficult circumstances—whether it's food insecurity, job loss, or the effects of domestic violence. In addition, donations to Mission Lexington or support of their Student Enrichment Program, which teaches students how to serve their communities, are always needed. This program helps the next generation learn how to lead with kindness, answer God’s call to help those in need, and see that “serving is the conduit to share the love of Jesus.”

Amy Hunter Reeves continues to make a lasting impact through her leadership, embodying the values she learned at Ben Lippen and using her experiences to glorify God by serving others.

We are so proud of Amy and the incredible work she is doing through Mission Lexington. Please join us in praying for her and the ministry as they continue to shine the light of Christ in the Lexington community!
