We look forward to honoring Coach Bob Weeber, Coach Bobby Richardson, and Marie Hadinger Coggin along with our 2023 inductees on September 29 at the Hall of Fame reception and half-time recognition ceremony!
Marie Hadinger Coggin, class of 1997, began her stellar athletic career at Ben Lippen in 6th grade when she ran on the Cross Country and Track teams. In addition to these, the five-sport letterman played varsity volleyball, basketball, and soccer and collected an impressive list of honors and awards for her contribution to these teams:
Athlete of the Year ’93-’97
All Conference Track and Cross Country
State All-Academic Team
All-Region in Basketball, Volleyball, & Soccer
Recognized in The State - All-Area Basketball
The State Top 30 in Soccer

Marie was a highly skilled basketball player and a fierce competitor. According to Coach Currier, she played guard and was an excellent outside shooter. Her versatility was so impressive that the coach allowed her to play in different positions on the court. Marie was not only a valuable utility player, but also a team leader who motivated her teammates to perform their best. Currier recognized her potential early on and promoted her from middle school to varsity basketball. Years later, when Marie became a high school basketball coach, she incorporated drills from Coach Currier into her own coaching.
Marie achieved several remarkable feats during her time as a student-athlete at Ben Lippen School. She became the first Lady Falcon to score 1000 points in basketball and was also recognized in The State's All-Area basketball roster. Additionally, in her junior year, Marie played a crucial role in helping her volleyball team secure the school's first and only Ben Lippen State Volleyball Championship. Her dedication and hard work paid off as she earned a total of 19 varsity letters by the end of her successful athletic career.
Outside of athletics, Marie was involved in student government and FCA during her years at Ben Lippen. Most of her free time was spent on a field or court which developed a mental toughness and a drive to always get better. Upon graduation in 1997, she attended Wingate University and played soccer for the Bulldogs.
Marie has twin boys and currently resides in Monroe, NC where teaches social studies at Piedmont High School. Still passionate about sports, she coaches basketball, soccer, and tennis and strives to instill valuable life skills - like PMA (Positive Mental Attitude)- which she learned through her participation in Ben Lippen athletics.
