Athletic Hall of Fame: Christy Lambert '24

Christy Lambert’s journey with Ben Lippen School began in 2000 when she and her family moved to Columbia, South Carolina, from Georgia. Having homeschooled her two children up until then, Christy and her husband, Jeff, sought a Christian school for their children's education. After hearing about Ben Lippen from family friends, the Settles, they visited the school and immediately knew it was the right place. Shortly after enrolling their children that Fall, Christy began her own journey with the school.

In the spring of 2001, Christy learned about an opening in the Ben Lippen Athletic Department. With some encouragement and humor, a friend mentioned it might be an easy job, even joking that Christy might get to "sit back and eat bonbons." However, Christy soon discovered that the job was anything but easy. Yet, she embraced the challenge joyfully, knowing that this was where the Lord had called her to serve.

For 15 years, Christy worked as Ben Lippen's Administrative Assistant and later as Associate Athletic Director. Her passion for athletics, organizational skills, and love for people made her a perfect fit for the role. She fondly remembers the many relationships she built with students, coaches, teachers, parents, and administrators, which she holds as the most rewarding part of her job. Christy has been deeply involved in students' lives, supporting and praying for them, especially during difficult times, and witnessing God's strength move in their lives.

At Ben Lippen, Christy found her true calling, and over the years, she has made countless memories. Among her most cherished are the relationships she has formed with student-athletes, students, coaches, and parents. She speaks highly of the people she has worked with, including Athletic Director Bill Currier, Dr. Ben Porter, and Max Russell, all of whom played significant roles in her journey. These relationships have brought her the most joy, and she hopes to be remembered as someone who loved and served others well.

When asked about her most memorable moments in athletics, Christy recalls several highlights: the 2002 Boys State Soccer Championship at Heathwood Hall, the 2008 Baseball State Championship with Coach Brent Walsh (who even hung the State Champion medal around her neck), the 2016 football State Championship, and the 12 consecutive state championships won by the boys’ cross-country team under Coach George Johnson. She also fondly remembers the daily interactions—writing checks for officials, ensuring teams had buses and drivers, and driving cheerleaders to and from games. The long hours were filled with joy and laughter, especially with colleagues like Coach Ryan Molony and Dr. Ben Porter.

For Christy, Ben Lippen has been more than just a place of work—it has been her family’s home. Her children graduated from Ben Lippen, with Mandy in 2002 and Justin in 2006. Christy and Jeff are forever grateful to the coaches and teachers who poured into their children’s lives, providing them with a premier Christian education and an enjoyable high school experience.

When Christy found out she was being inducted into the Ben Lippen Athletic Hall of Fame, she was humbled and honored. Known for her love of the Falcons, Christy was rendered speechless—a rare occurrence—when she was informed of this recognition. To be given this honor is something she will forever cherish.

Christy’s faith has been the cornerstone of her service at Ben Lippen. She was a wretch given new life and purpose in Jesus, and she constantly reminds herself of this truth. This grace and love she has received makes it easy for her to show grace and love to others. She has seen the power of prayer make a difference in the lives of Ben Lippen students and staff, from kids coming to Christ to broken families being reconciled. Prayer is the lifeblood of Ben Lippen, and Christy has witnessed God’s provision and faithfulness time and time again.

As she looks to the future, Christy hopes that Ben Lippen School will always be known for glorifying God. She prays that the athletic department will continue to honor God by hiring coaches who have a strong walk with the Lord and desire to share Jesus's love with their teams while providing them with a premier Christian education. Christy Lambert’s legacy at Ben Lippen is one of faith, service, and love—a legacy that will continue to impact the lives of students, families, and staff for years to come.
