Staff Story: Gwen Cornwell

Lower School Administrative Assistant, SAR Campus
STEM Club Assistant

This year, Mrs. Cornwell will begin her twenty-eighth year as an administrative assistant at Ben Lippen Lower School (SAR Campus). She and her husband Rob (who happens to be a CIU alumnus) have been married for 36 years and have three grown children: Jessi, Alisha, and Tanner, all graduates of Ben Lippen. Jessi lives in Nashville while Alisha and Tanner live here in Columbia with their families. Mr. and Mrs. Cornwell have eight beautiful grandchildren. One of their favorite things is to be “Mama Honey” and “Pops” to their grandchildren. In her free time, Mrs. Cornwell enjoys playing with her grandchildren, reading, walking, and crocheting.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I am a Ben Lippen grad from the mountains of Asheville. Another thing is that we (my parents and sisters) lived in Haiti for two years where my dad served as the principal of a Christian school.

Why do you choose to work at Ben Lippen?

I LOVE Ben Lippen with all my heart. I enjoy my co-workers – they are my family!! The students and parents are awesome and I love getting to know them. The students always make me smile.  I am so thankful to be working in a Christian environment with people who love the Lord.

What has been your most memorable moment at Ben Lippen so far?

I think it would be watching all three of my children graduate from Ben Lippen. I am so thankful for the opportunity they have had to learn under such godly teachers.
