Teacher Feature: Dale Angstadt

Teaches: Philosophy, Old Testament Survey

Mr. Angstadt has been married to his wife Phyllis for over forty-two years and says, “next to becoming a Christian my marriage to her is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me!” The couple has two daughters, Jerusha Ruth and Anna Joy, both of whom live in Columbia, and Anna is the mother of their grandson Porter who is three years old. Mr. Angstadt admits that he does not have much free time but enjoys “just hangin’ out” with Phyllis, reading, traveling, doing carpentry, pastel drawing, and more.

What else would you like readers to know about you?

I am an ‘Army brat’ who is incredulous when I meet people who have lived in the same place all their lives! I have ‘itchy feet’ and always like new adventures and to see new places, which is why it has been such an enjoyable privilege to have led, along with my wife, Phyllis, numerous study tours to Europe with Ben Lippen students over the years. I have also had the opportunity to lead a Ben Lippen Israel tour along with Mr. Chad Burnett and CIU’s Dr. Bryan Beyer, and hope to lead many more. Fantastic memories!

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I enjoy visiting art museums and can spend hours studying all the artists’ techniques, reveling in the beauty of the art, and marveling at the artists’ creativity!

Why do you choose to work at Ben Lippen?

Because I’m convinced God led me to teach at Ben Lippen. But the privilege of being a ‘collaborator’ in God’s work in students’ lives and being witness to growth in their relationship with Jesus and a deepened knowledge of their faith is both humbling and exciting!

What do students get at Ben Lippen that they won’t get somewhere else?

Students get a college preparatory education from a Biblically holistic perspective so they will perceive that mathematics, history, languages, athletics, the arts, technologies, and the sciences are all reflections of who God is, who we are as human beings designed and created in His image, and that we live in an incredibly-designed universe.

What do you love most about Ben Lippen?

That’s a hard question; there’s a lot to love! Teaching God’s Word and helping students understand it and allow it to impact their lives… relationships with a fantastic bunch of teenagers… getting to know students from around the world… and maybe most of all, the collegiality of men and women who are excellent at their craft, passionate about what they do, whose intellect continually challenges me, who are a team in every sense of the word, and who I really enjoy being around and am privileged to share life with!
