Tell our readers about your family. I’ve been married for a long time! to my best friend from college. We have three children: a daughter who is married and has our two precious grandkids, our son, who is in the Navy, is married and so far, only has dogs! and our youngest, who graduated from BL and Clemson! We are proud of them all.

What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time, I enjoy being outside. Gardening yard work, hiking, or spending time at the beach is so therapeutic and relaxing. I also enjoy reading or listening to audiobooks. But year-round, I love spending time with my family – especially my grandkids!

What is something most people don’t know about you? I don’t know if most people know that my husband and I used to be missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators. We worked at the JAARs center in Waxhaw, NC, and lived in Cameroon, West Africa, for a while. We’ve also traveled all over the world on short term mission trips and love seeing people in different cultures all worshipping the same God that we do! (It’s probably a little like heaven will be.)

What do you love most about Ben Lippen? There is an atmosphere here that is so family-friendly! One of the things that impressed us first was the Friday night football games where families with kids of all ages come out, eat, have fun and cheer on their Falcons! I love the people I teach with, the families that come here and the diverse student population!

What do you love most about what you teach? I LOVE teaching Biology!  I feel like so many times we start a new topic and I’ll say, “Now THIS is really interesting!” Because it is! I know some people have a hard time with science, but it’s foundational; without biology, there is NO life!  The intricacies amaze me and point me to The Creator who designed all that we see and what we do not see!

What do you love most about teaching your students? I love getting to know the students beyond the classroom – seeing them perform at sports and drama and music! They have so many talents and it’s fun to see them use them. But as far as teaching, I think I love most the “OH – Now I get it!” moments (the ah-ha moments!). It’s so great to see the light come on when they are looking at something complicated and then it clicks!  I LOVE that!
