Teacher Feature: Stephen Jacobs
Stephen Jacobs, a seventh grade Bible teacher at Ben Lippen School, is passionate about helping his students understand and defend their faith in a world that often challenges their beliefs. For the past three years at Ben Lippen, he has worked to equip his students with the tools to confidently share their faith, grounded in the truth of Scripture. Recently, Jacobs has taken his mission even further by releasing his new book, Am I Saved?, a work designed to address one of the most profound questions that both young and adult believers struggle with—how do you know if you are truly saved?
Drawing from his eight years of teaching experience, Jacobs noticed a recurring theme in his classroom: students would often ask, “How do you know if you are saved?” He realized that many of them were struggling with doubts about their salvation and lacked the clarity and confidence to answer this fundamental question. This prompted him to write Am I Saved?—a book that provides biblical insights to help individuals find assurance in their salvation.
Am I Saved? serves as an encouraging resource for those questioning their faith or uncertain about their relationship with God. With personal stories and biblical wisdom, Jacobs offers a warm and practical approach to this topic, making the truth of God’s Word accessible and relatable to readers of all ages. The book is written to provide biblical insights that remove doubt and build confidence in God’s promises, allowing readers to experience the peace that comes with knowing they are secure in their salvation.
For Jacobs, teaching his students how to defend their faith goes hand in hand with helping them confidently answer difficult questions. In his seventh grade Bible class, he emphasizes the importance of not only understanding what they believe but also why they believe it. “In seventh grade, we focus on helping students defend their faith in a society that is increasingly antagonistic toward Christianity," Jacobs explains. "We teach them to do so with reason and evidence, all while maintaining the gentleness and respect emphasized in 1 Peter 3:15.”
"but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect" - 1 Peter 3:1 (ESV)
Stephen Jacobs is not just impacting the next generation of Christian leaders through his teaching at Ben Lippen School, but through Am I Saved?, he is providing an invaluable resource that helps believers of all ages navigate the foundational question of salvation. Whether in the classroom or through his writing, Jacobs is dedicated to empowering believers—young and old alike—with the truth of God’s Word and the assurance of salvation.
