Ben Lippen Student Wins Table Tennis Tournament
This past weekend, Boarding Program Director Steve Sark took students Victor Ren, Dylan Liu and David Y. Wang to a USA Table Tennis sanctioned tournament at Triangle Table Tennis just outside of Raleigh, North Carolina. The facility is home to the U.S. National Olympic Team Table Tennis Trials.
Prior to this tournament, Victor held a ranking of 1544 so he entered the Under 1650 tournament. He played five group matches and beat everyone, dropping only one game in all five matches. He earned a bye for the quarterfinals and sailed through the semifinals & finals 3-0 and 3-0 against his opponents. Victor earned a cash prize of $125 in addition to a medal for his victory in the Under 1650 group.
Victor and the boys have been practicing diligently over the last couple of months. They roll the ping pong table out into the parking lot of the boarding houses in the afternoons after school and practice there. Then, they fold up the table and roll it back into the boarding house when they are finished. It’s often difficult to train with the wind and rain!
