High School Update and Reminders 5.13.22

May 16, 2022 Upper School News

Dear High School Parents and Students,

This week the end of the school year became real. Between yearbooks being distributed on Tuesday and all the end-of-year activities/performances, we’ve realized how little time we have left! As we close out the end of the year, there are a few things to keep
in mind.

Baseball Championship Series – Our varsity baseball team clinched a spot in the Championship Series this past week with a win over Wilson Hall on Wednesday. The team will be playing Laurence Manning on Monday. The first game of the series will be held at Laurence Manning; Ben Lippen will host the second game on Tuesday. Athletics has arranged for a Student Fan bus to travel to Laurence Manning for students who would like to attend. The Fan Bus will leave the school at 5:00PM on Monday evening. We will also be having Spirit Days on Monday and Tuesday to support the baseball team. On Monday, we will be having a Gold Out at school and students can wear jeans if they wear a “gold” (yellow) shirt. On Tuesday, we will be having a Green Out and students can wear jeans if they wear a green shirt.

Fine Arts Performances – The High School Spring Concert and Art Show will be taking place on Friday, May 20, at the Ben Lippen Performing Arts Center on St. Andrews Road.

Powderpuff Football – As a wrap-up to the spring football practices, the high school will be hosting a Powder Puff football tournament on Saturday, May 21, at 5:30 p.m. in the football stadium. Young ladies from each grade level will compete for the coveted title of Powderpuff Champion. Students who are participating in the games need to be on campus by 5 p.m.

Exams – Senior Exams will be next week on Thursday, May 19 (English/Math), and Friday, May 20(Science/World Languages). Details about Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior exams are below.

Candlelight Ceremony – The Ben Lippen baccalaureate ceremony will be held at Shandon Baptist Church on Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m. Candlelight Service is a special service for seniors, families, friends, and faculty/staff during which selected students and parents share memories of their time at Ben Lippen.

Graduation – The Ben Lippen Graduation will be held at Shandon Baptist Church on Friday, May 27 at 10 a.m. This year our commencement speaker is Dr. Ben Carson, world-renowned neurosurgeon, famous author, former US Presidential Candidate, and former US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Tickets are required for this event. Seniors and their families have already reserved their tickets and any remaining tickets will be opened up to the Ben Lippen community. If you would like tickets to Graduation, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/qqytpaAGbgqNUpAr6. If you have any questions about tickets, please email the high school office (Gina.Dickinson@BenLippen.com). Tickets will be given on a first-come, first-served basis as people request them. Dr. Carson will be selling and signing his new book, Created Equal, after graduation.

High school exams for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be held on the mornings of May 23 (English/Math), May 24 (Science/History), and May 25 (Bible/World Languages). Each is a half-day ending at 11:45 a.m. (Monday’s exam will end at 12:30 p.m. due to the late start). Students may dress in jeans and spirit wear for exams (no leggings, sweatpants, or athletic shorts). Students will not be permitted to take their exams if they are not properly dressed.

Please find attached the Underclassmen Sign-Out Form and Exam Exemption Form. All students must complete the Sign-out form and return it to Mrs. Lambert or Mrs. Dickinson before leaving for the summer.

I will be praying for all the high school students as we look to finish the school year strong and go into the summer. Thank you for your continued support throughout this whole year. Please let me know if you have any questions. Go Falcons!

In Him,

Max Russell
High School Principal
