High School Update: Camp Ben Lippen Next Week!
Dear High School Parents and Students,
We are getting more and more excited about Camp Ben Lippen at Carolina Point next week! We have a great retreat planned and look forward to seeing how the Lord will use this opportunity to impact our students. The speaker for the retreat is Rick Palmer, the Metro Director for Young Life here in Columbia. Rick spoke at a Ben Lippen Chapel a couple of years ago and delivered a wonderful message that the students enjoyed. I am excited about the messages that he has put together and the impact they will make on the students.
As we are going into the last weekend before Camp Ben Lippen, I wanted to send out some final information regarding the retreat.
If you have not turned in the Carolina Point waiver and/or the medication form (if needed) they are attached to this email and need to be turned in by Monday for students to be able to go.
Students can find a packing list inside the Parent/Student Packet that is attached. Students need to remember to bring a sleeping bag and towels for their stay, these will not be provided.
Weather forecast is looking like it will be in the mid-70’s to the low 80’s during the day and in the 60’s at night. Some rain is being forecasted so I would recommend students to bring a sweatshirt or jacket and something for the rain (umbrella, raincoat, etc). We are hoping the rain holds off and we will be able to enjoy all the camp has to offer.
Students will find out who they are rooming with and which buses they will be riding up on when they arrive on Monday.
We are asking all students to arrive at Ben Lippen by 7:20 AM on Monday so we can load luggage and buses for a departure time at 7:30 AM. Students are strongly encouraged to use the restroom before being dropped off. Restrooms are available in the gym. Buses will be parked in the CIU lot across from Ben Lippen on International Blvd. Students can be dropped off there or can park at Ben Lippen and walk over to the buses when they arrive. We will have faculty on hand to direct traffic and allow students to safely cross the Blvd.
We will be arriving back to Ben Lippen on Thursday by 4:00PM.
Throughout the retreat, I will send out updates about what we are doing and how the retreat is going. Please be on the lookout for those throughout the week.
Reminder: students need to leave their cell phones and other technological devices (smart watches, iPads, computers, etc.) at home. We do not want the distraction of phones for the students while they are there. Also, the cell service is very spotty at Carolina Point and the WiFi can only be accessed by a select group of individuals who need it. There are camp phones available during the day for students to check in back home. We will also have a photographer/videographer who will be documenting the trip and posting pictures for students to access.
If you need to reach your student for an emergency, you can call the camp phone numbers below or email Mrs. Dickinson (gina.dickinson@benlippen.com) or me (max.russell@benlippen.com) while we are there. We will be checking our emails regularly and can get to your student quickly if needed. You can also call the Carolina Point main number which is 828-513-0828. Students will also have the opportunity to call home on one of these phones if absolutely necessary.
This is going to be an amazing retreat. As I mentioned above, I am excited to see how this will serve as a catalyst for the Lord to work in the lives of our students and allow them to take that next step to the cross. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or the high school office (gina.dickinson@benlippen.com). Go Falcons!
In Him,
Max Russell
