High School Update: First Day Back Countdown!

August 7, 2022 Ben Lippen News, Upper School News

Dear High School Parents and Students,

It has been a week full of energy and excitement with the kick-off of the new year with our faculty and staff.  Everyone has been working hard to ensure we have a great start to the 2022-2023 school year! Below are several pieces of information that you may find helpful.

  • New Student Orientation: All new students are invited to attend our New Student Orientation on Tuesday, August 9 from 9AM-11AM to receive a student-led tour and receive a variety of information to help in their transition to Ben Lippen.  New students can be dropped off and picked up in the front of the school by the gym.  Also, it is recommended that new students bring a bag to Orientation since we will be handing out Chromebooks and they will have the opportunity to pick up textbooks for classes they are registered for.
  • Open Campus: As well as New Student Orientation, we will be hosting an Open Campus for all students on August 9 from 9AM-12PM.  During Open Campus, students will be able to walk their schedule, meet teachers, pick up textbooks, receive parking decals (if needed), and check out lockers (if needed).  New students will be able to participate in Open Campus as soon as Orientation concludes.
  • First Day Schedule: The first day of school (Wednesday, August 10th) is a ½ day.  Students will go through all their classes, both A and B Day classes, on Wednesday and see all their teachers.  You can find the first day of school schedule here or attached to this email.
  • Bell Schedule: Starting on Thursday (August 11) we will begin using our regular bell schedule.  Thursday will be our first official A-Day, and Friday will be a B-Day.  The bell schedule for this school year can be found here or attached to this email.
  • Schedule Changes: If any student needs a change to their schedule please email tamara.dallery@benlippen.com.  Mrs. Dallery is working through all the schedule change requests in the order they are received.
  • Camp Ben Lippen – We are getting more and more excited about the high school Camp Ben Lippen Retreat at Carolina Point.   The dates of the retreat this year will be Monday, August 15 to Thursday, August 18. We will leave at 7:30AM on Monday and be back by the end of the school day on Thursday.   On Friday, August 19, there is no school for high school students to allow time for rest and recovery from the retreat.
    • All students need to complete the Carolina Point Waiver form by Friday, August 12 and turn it in to Mrs. Lambert.
    • Any student who needs to take medications while at Camp Ben Lippen will need to fill out the Camp Ben Lippen Medication Form.  All medications need to be in a one-gallon ziplock bag containing your student’s medication and completed form. Please write your student’s name and grade on the bag with a Sharpie marker and turn these in to Mrs. Lambert at the front desk.
    • Finally, any parent that wants to meet with the nurse that will be traveling with us to Camp Ben Lippen (Sarah Strickland) will be available to meet on Friday, August 12 from 2:00-4:00PM in the conference room at the front of the school.
  • Winterims – We are excited about Winterims this coming school year.  Winterim Week is the week of January 16th.  We are glad to be able to return to offering local, domestic, and international opportunities for our students this coming year.  Please find the 2022 Winterim Packet attached that explains the Winterim program and the opportunities that will be available this year.  We will be having a Winterim Fair before Parent’s Night on Tuesday, August 30 from 5:00-6:00PM, and you will be able to meet Winterim leaders and get more information about Winterims you may be interested in.  We will be adding a couple more Winterims before sign-ups (week of September 5th) and will communicate them as they are finalized.
  • Substitute Teachers Needed – As we are beginning a new school year, we are looking for a few more substitute teachers to help when teachers need to call off.  If you, or someone you know, would like to be a substitute teacher you can complete an application and we can set up a time for you to discuss this opportunity.

We are excited about the start of the new school year and making an impact in the lives of each of our students.  Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in the education of your child(ren) this coming school year.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the High School Office (gina.dickinson@benlippen.com).

In Him,
Max Russell
