Report Card Release Dates
As we approach the end of the school year, I wanted to let you know about the timing for release of report cards as well as a few other important reminders.
RenWeb will remain accessible for parents and students as teachers finalize grades. Please understand that as teachers enter grades your child’s average will fluctuate.
Report Cards are scheduled to be released on Wednesday, May 29. You will receive an email once grades are final and report cards are ready.
Credit for high school classes in grades 7-12 is awarded at the end of each semester. The semester grade is made up of grades from quarter 2 (40%), quarter 3 (40%) and the semester exam (20%).
Your student’s GPA will update based on credit earned from high school courses. Please note that this GPA is cumulative for all high school credit earned, not each semester in isolation.
Academic Eligibility for Extracurricular Activities
Eligibility for fall 2019 sports and activities is determined by final report card grades from May 2019. Students must pass (60% average or better) six courses each quarter AND maintain a 2.0 quarter GPA (70 average for students in Grades 6-8) to participate in athletics and/or co-curricular activities (sports, fine arts and clubs). Students who have a 2.0 GPA but have a failing grade in individual subjects will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the athletic director and the principal.
Ben Lippen School is a member of the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) and must comply with their academic standards for athletics. Per SCISA rules, students in grades 9-12 must take and pass at least four (4) core courses or five (5) of any courses each grading period or semester to be eligible. After each grading period, any student who falls below this standard will become automatically ineligible and will not be be able to participate in any team activities (practice, travel, and games) for the remainder of the quarter.
Students will be placed on academic probation if they fail two or more courses in one quarter OR if their quarter GPA falls below 2.0 (70 average for students in Grades 6-8). Students on academic probation are required to have an initial meeting with a guidance counselor, who will establish an accountability plan that must be implemented by the student and his/her family at home to ensure academic improvement. If deemed necessary, a tutor will be suggested to assist in deficient subject areas.
A Quarter 4 Honor Roll list will be compiled for the Upper School consisting of all students in Grades 6-8 who have achieved an A (90% or greater) in all their core courses, and all students in Grades 9-12 who have achieved an A (90% or greater) in all their academic subjects.
A Semester 2 Principal’s List will be compiled for the Upper School consisting of all students in Grades 6-8 who have achieved a cumulative semester average of 97 or greater in core classes, and all students in Grades 9-12 who have achieved a 4.7 GPA or greater for the semester.
If you have a question or concern about one of your child’s grades, please contact the teacher.
