Congratulations to Class of 2020 Grad Riley Reasons! Riley attends the South Carolina Honors College at The University of South Carolina and is one of only 7 USC freshmen chosen to make up the 2020 BARSC-MD Cohort.
BARSC-MD is the accelerated program offered by USC’s Honors College in conjunction with its School of Medicine. The program allows students to complete their undergraduate and medical degrees in 7 years instead of the traditional 8 years. The program is highly competitive and admits fewer than 10 students each year from a pool of over 500 Honors freshmen.
For USC’s story, Riley was interviewed and asked two main questions. Read on for the questions and Riley’s responses.
What drew you to the field of medicine?
I discovered my love for helping patients while volunteering at my local hospital. I’ve always had a fascination with the sciences, and the field of medicine allows me to apply that passion to help others.
What are your future plans?
I’m looking forward to participating in research at UofSC during my undergraduate years, as well as at the School of Medicine. I’m undecided which area of medicine I want to pursue, but I’m excited to be mentored by the faculty at the School of Medicine to find the field best suited for me.
