Teaches: 2nd Grade, SAR Campus
Mrs. Katie Plunkett joined our faculty family this year as a 2nd grade teacher at our SAR campus. She and her husband, Will, have been married for 13 years. Mrs. Plunkett is the last in their family to join us at Ben Lippen: her husband has been teaching at Ben Lippen since 2015 and and their three children, Alex, Liam and Anne, are all students at Ben Lippen.
What’s a little-known fact about you? I grew up with my family in Japan. Will and I came from opposite sides of the world and met at Toccoa Falls College.
What do you like to do in your free time? I love to read, especially on our back porch with a cup of coffee. Also shopping used bookstores for more good books, movie nights and art projects with my kids, and attempting to keep my plants alive.
What else would you like readers to know about you? Fun fact— Several of my mom’s siblings went to Ben Lippen when it was in Asheville because my grandparents were missionaries in the Philippines. I love the long history Ben Lippen has of serving families all over the world by providing a solid Christian education.
What are you passionate about? I’m passionate about helping kids to think deeply about the world and how God is at work in it. I also love connecting kids to good books to help them LOVE reading!
What do you love most about teaching your students? They love learning! We have so much fun digging into reading, writing, math, and then discovering the world around us through unit of study. I love being able to connect what we are learning back to the Bible and God’s amazing plans for the world. Their bright minds will help change the world!
