Ben Lippen Stories

Greene Family

The Greene Family

We are the Greene family. I have two daughters at Ben Lippen School. Portland is in the 9th grade and Raleigh is in the 5th grade. The girls LOVE Ben Lippen. When they had COVID, the first thing they said was “oh no, we are going to have to miss school!” At that moment, It was confirmed that I had made the right decision!

What do you love about Ben Lippen School?
There are so many things that I love about Ben Lippen! My daughters were comfortable at their previous schools and excelled in many areas. However, the schools lacked the incorporation of the teachings of the Lord. How beautiful and truly unique it is to hear the girls speak of how they prayed in class or how they learned Bible verses! What about praying for their classroom peers or attending chapel every week. Don’t forget that they even learn about God in math class – who would have thought that this was possible. Last but certainly not least, I enjoy seeing the student-athletes pray before sporting events. I can already see where these school-based Christian experiences are beginning to have a positive impact on my daughters’ lives. My prayer is that the learning experiences at Ben Lippen will mold them into kind, godly, and Christian women, who can make positive, God-centered contributions to society.

Why did you choose Ben Lippen for your children?
Greene Family in HawaiiTragic and life-changing events brought my family to Ben Lippen. My beloved husband was killed in an automobile accident in 2019. Can you imagine having to tell your children that their father has died? They were daddy’s girls! He was the one who laughed and giggled with them at Myabi when the cook tossed the shrimp into the air before it landed on the plate. He was the one who walked them into the school building every morning. He was the one who coached their recreational league soccer team. Oh, and last but certainly not least, he was the one who told them bedtime stories and tickled them each night before telling them he loved them. Every time the girls spoke to their friends it was “my daddy this and my daddy that.” What would they say now? How could I look at my daughters’ sad faces when fathers and daughters walked past us in the mall or at Disney. My husband’s death left our family with a strange and quiet numbness. We were just able to go back to Myabi again this past summer. My only brother had a massive heart attack and died about one year after my husband was killed. The girls adored him! I prayed for something that could help rebuild our faith and strength. Yes, we went to therapy, etc… but, we needed something more constant and substantial.

Greene FamilyMy sweet mother, Loraine Montgomery, who is a devout Christian, said to me, “Kimberly, why don’t we think about sending the girls to a Christian School.” She then went on to say that she had done some research on Ben Lippen School and really liked what she had seen. As I began to read about Ben Lippen, I decided that this may be the place for my daughters. I loved the fact that Ben Lippen cultivates students spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. My daughters needed healing in all of these areas. I wanted them in a school that not only focused on academic achievement but mental, emotional, physical, and most importantly spiritual health. Ben Lippen’s nurturing environment has done just that. The teachers do a phenomenal job of providing a comfortable but structured Christ-centered learning environment, where the students feel right at home, away from home!

In what ways have you seen your children grow in their faith as a result of their experiences at Ben Lippen?
My daughters are kinder and more considerate of others. They can quote to me Bible verses and know what they mean. I have seen them apply what they have learned into their everyday lives. The girls pray more often and even quiz my mom (who is a Bible scholar) about the Bible. Their general Bible knowledge has increased.

What is the one word your family would use to describe the Ben Lippen experience?
Phenomenal

What would you tell other parents who are considering enrolling their children at Ben Lippen School?
